Presentations made on 4th and 15th September to Connaught Hospital and King Harman Rd Hospital. The cheque provided was £1, 700 by POWAA UK and Georgia chapter. This presentation was our contribution to help fight Covid19 in Sierra Leone.The first presentation was by Derek Williams and Lucien Turay.

On Saturday 1st February, twenty two POWAA members got together at the McAuley Studio at Tate Modern, Sumner Street, SE1 for POWAA’s first away day and organisational review from 10am until 3.30pm including a 30 min lunch break . Attendees comprised current Trustees, Past Presidents and other members.
The theme was ‘Reflect, Review and Looking Forward’.
The objectives were:
-Participants will have a good understanding of POWAA UK background, charity objectives and current status, and recommend future plans;
-Strategic objectives and policy changes, if any, agreed
- Recommended Action Plan agreed.
Next steps will include reporting recommendations to Trustees and members at a general meeting for adoption.
The keynote address was delivered by Mr Francis Galba Ojumirie Bright one of the founding members of POWAA and 1st President, then called Chairman.
The day was organised into 4 sessions namely:
i. where are we coming from?
ii. where are we now?
iii. where do we want to be?
iv. how will we get there?.
They were delivered through timelines, slide presentations, group discussions, plenary presentations with further discussions and digital polling.
It was agreed among others that POWAA will in future focus on developing our key beneficiaries, the pupils as well as actively supporting the Government of Sierra Leone to take the lead in developing the enabling environment for the pupils to progress.
Three strategic priorities were further agreed to guide POWAA interventions over the next five years, namely:
1. Fundraising/ diversify income generation
2. Relationship with GOSL, OPWA FT and other stakeholders
3. Mentorship & careers advice/support
A rousing delivery of the school song kept attendees motivated and they felt it was important to have a clear implementation plan. So as there was no time to expand on how those priorities will be delivered, they agreed to organise another meeting within the shortest possible time to complete the exercise.
We thank all those who contributed towards making the landmark event a memorable and successful one.
